The many layers of paint and pattern in my work represent the many layers that make up who we are. Our sexes, genders, ages, races and religions are only aspects of our identities, and one alone can never define the whole. These Lace-scapes are my newest works, but they continue to blur the line between spontaneity and intentionality as my previous work has. In these paintings, I have distorted the lace fabric motifs in order to experience fully the spontaneous deconstruction of their familiar forms. Using acrylic paint, I then come to find new forms, and rediscover the intention in a spontaneous process. I juxtapose lace, a material that connotes old age, with spray paint, a material associated with the chaos of youth, in order to mimic the complexities of identity.
